Glaucoma

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is often referred to as the “thief of sight”, because it can cause irreversible damage to vision, without showing any symptoms. This is why doctors stress the importance of routine eye exams, because if glaucoma is detected early on, damage to vision can be prevented.

Glaucoma is a very serious condition, and often the only way to detect it is through an eye exam. You are more at risk of glaucoma if you have had a family member with glaucoma, your intraocular pressures are above average, you’re Black, Asian, or of Hispanic heritage.

Symptoms of angle-closure glaucoma:

  • Headaches

  • Eye pain

  • Nausea

  • Rainbows around light at night

  • Very blurred vision

If you experience these symptoms, call your eye doctor immediately. Sight lost by either form of glaucoma is not reparable, and all doctors can do at this point is stop further vision loss from occurring. With regular eye exams, you can prevent glaucoma from causing vision loss! Give us a call to schedule an eye examination today!
