What is a Cataract?

Cataracts are one of the leading causes of blindness in America today. A cataract is formed when natural protein in your eye begins to build up and eventually makes your eye cloudy. Cataracts are not known to be preventable, and almost everyone will develop cataracts as they age. Age is the most common cause of cataracts, but clear vision can be restored with surgical intervention.

Treatment

Luckily, vision loss caused by cataracts is not permanent, and vision can be restored with surgery. While surgery is the only treatment available for cataracts, cataract surgery is quick, painless and very effective. Today, patients have many options concerning cataract surgery.

Cataract Surgery

Before you go in for cataract surgery, you and your eye doctor at Bay Eye Care will discuss which lens implant would best suit your needs. An artificial lens will replace your natural cataract affected lens. If you have a pre-existing glass prescription, you may be able to choose a lens that correct cataracts and your refractive error at once!

If you have been told that you have cataracts, or if you are showing the symptoms of cataract development, call Bay Eye Care Center! We will go through the options with you, and get you on the right track to clear vision!
